Job responsibilities

To welcome patients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details as appropriate treating all such information as confidential.

Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures on patients.

To provide information to patients as appropriate who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or require contraception advice, risk reduction advice and condom demonstration.

Provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services.

To support health promotion events when requested.

To be non-judgemental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.

To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake call taking and reception cover, registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.

Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Evidence of good standard of general education including basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Care Certificate or willingness to undertake at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.
• Willingness to undertake further education and training /learn new skills as required.

Desirable

• Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
• Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) course – Core.
• Adult Basic Life Support (in date).

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in a health care environment.
• Experience of working with the public.
• Basic knowledge of and experience of IT systems such as Microsoft Office (2005 pr newer) Word, Excel, Outlook and internet navigation.

Desirable

• Recent experience of working in a sexual and reproductive health service or equivalent
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience working with IDOX LILIE clinical system.

Skils

Essential

• Able to perform the full range of duties the role requires and dexterity to perform clinical duties.
• Capable of using equipment within a work environment following training.
• Competent in phlebotomy/venepuncture.
• Willingness to undertake microscopy training if required by the service
• Good communication skills

Desirable

• Experience of reading and interpreting microscopy slides, and ability to appropriately document associated findings if required by the service
