As a Health care assistant, supporting residents in daily activities, including washing, dressing, eating, and bathing, is a primary responsibility. Maintaining a dignified and responsible demeanor, considering cultural differences and professional boundaries, is crucial when interacting with service users, visitors, and colleagues. Familiarity with the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults policy, health and safety protocols, infection control measures, and reporting procedures for accidents, incidents, and adverse events is necessary.
Service safety – Healthcare Assistant
Contributing to the ongoing quality of service and care involves identifying and promptly reporting risk issues related to the health and social care of service users. Assisting qualified staff in the continuous assessment of residents and promptly reporting any changes to the Nurse in Charge is also part of the role. Additionally, helping residents with menu choices, supporting them during meals, and conveying feedback to the Chef Manager are integral tasks.
Maintaining the cleanliness of service users’ rooms, performing bed making and linen changes, and ensuring the tidiness of common living and service areas contribute to creating a safe environment. Responsible for managing residents’ clothing, including collection, distribution, and return of laundered items, as well as ensuring the security of residents’ and the Home’s property, is essential.
Training – Health Care Assistant
Participation in mandatory training sessions, involvement in residents’ activities, assisting in the orientation of new care assistants, and performing administrative duties using both hard copy and IT systems are expected. Adhering to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, maintaining strict confidentiality, and keeping records in accordance with the Data Protection Act are critical aspects of the role.
