Job summary
Broadgate Ward needs a health care assistant. Broadgate is the Trusts 17 bedded male acute admissions ward situated in Medium Secure services. Our mission is to provide safe, individualised care and treatment for detained in-patients who are in a disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder or have complex risk and other longer term needs.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative person to take up the post of Health Care Support Worker Band 3 at the John Howard Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to actively form therapeutic, meaningful relationships with patients using a range of interventions/activities to enhance their care and improve their inpatient experience.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the job is to inspire, motivate and empower service users to achieve a betterquality of life and wellbeing, and fulfil their personal ambitions for recovery.The post holder will put service users at the centre of everything they do, and consistentlydeliver a high quality service that promotes and supports recovery. - Minimum 5 GCSEs A-C including English and Maths
Experience
Essential
- Clinical experience of working with adults with mental health problems in either a health or social care setting
- Experience of working in a community setting.
- Experience of working in a Home Treatment team and with individuals in crisis.
- Experience of working with families and carer.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Fluent in both oral and written English.
- Ability to form appropriate and respectful working relationships with a diverse range of people.
- Ability to respond positively to people who are distressed or who behave in a challenging manner.
- Ability to relate and listen to people with mental health problems and provide emotional support and care
- Ability to carry out a range of practical and manual tasks with regard to household maintenance, housing, benefit entitlement, etc
- Ability to reflect on own working practice and its impact upon service users and other MDT staff.
