Health Care Support Workers Job Summary
We seek to appoint enthusiastic and dynamic CAMHS Brief Intervention Home Treatment Senior Health care Support Workers who are passionate about crisis management and ensuring safe and effective interventions are delivered to a high-risk population.
The CAMHS Brief intervention Home Treatment team will be an alternative to hospital admission service, with the aim to support children and young people’s mental health within the community where an admission to an inpatient hospital may not be in their best interest or could be avoided with more intensive community support.
The Health care Support Worker post-holder will be a Band 4 CAMHS Senior Healthcare Support Worker, and the main focus of the role is to support the teams clinical practice and experience of CYP in mental health crisis by using clinical skills to assist in the co-ordination and facilitation of brief interventions and home treatment for service users. There will be an expectation for the postholder to work flexibly within the Crisis Pathway and support other crisis services.
The service will be operational between 8am – 10pm, 7 days a week, 365 days, for C&YP between the ages of twelve and eighteen years old, who reside in the London boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich.
This role involves attending multiple locations across the tri-borough, candidates must hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes. The ability to travel efficiently between sites is essential to meet the needs of the service.
Health care Support Worker Main Duties
- Support lead clinical practitioners to provide high quality, high intensity, and specialist service intervention to young people in the right place at the right time; promoting choice, the young person’s/significant other’s voice and hopefulness to ensure a recovery orientated approach. This could take place in a variety of settings across the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich.
- Discuss onward clinical care options with lead clinical practitioners and organising follow up as required.
- Opening RiO referrals and documenting contacts and activity appropriately in line with operational policy, if required.
- Ensure that collection of required data to inform key clinical performance indicators and participate in service audit and evaluation within the team.
- To ensure the safe maintenance and sharing of accurate oral and written communication, clinical records, and electronic records to a high standard, and that they are stored and accessed appropriately at all times of service users and their significant others.
- Assist in the design and implementation of service development and quality improvement projects within the service as required.
- To ensure information systems are kept up to date and comply with Trust protocols.
- To participate in the development of an effective team and the development of productive working relationships throughout the Trust.
Person Specification
Training/Qualification
Essential
- GCSE English or equivalent Vocational Level 3 / NVQ3 level qualification plus short courses or relevant experience to diploma level.
- Minimum of a second-class bachelor’s degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g., psychology) or Level 5 foundation degree or equivalent e.g., Nursing Associate.
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development and continuing education acquired through formal training or experience to diploma level equivalent.
- Willing to undertake training and be assessed for competency in telephone triage.
Desirable
- Experience working with people with mental health problems, ideally with experience of working in, CAMHS, mental health acute and/or crisis services.
- Front line customer service experience.
- Experience of confidently managing difficult conversations or situations using compassion and empathy.
- Use of databases including inputting data and confident in using different IT systems.
