Health Care Assistant Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of clinical health care assistant to work on Romanby ward at the Friarage Hospital.
The health care assistant will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.
Band 2 requirements – willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.
Band 3 requirements –
- Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)
- Care certificate
- Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and
experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;
– Theoretical knowledge
– Experience of a range of care and related procedures
– clinical observations
– knowledge of relevant legislation
There is a clear framework to allow for health care assistant to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications.
The health care assistant will work 11.5 hour shifts which will include work at weekends and nights.
Romanby ward is a medical ward which cares for patients with varied needs ranging from acute illness management, chronic disease management, palliative care and the complexities of discharge processes.
Health Care Assistant Main duties
As a clinical health care assistant, you will work together with a registered nurse to provide nursing care for an allocated group of patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated person who is committed to delivering a high quality of individualised patient centred care in a caring and compassionate manner.
The successful health care assistant may undertake any or all of the following clinical or therapeutic activities:
• taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, level of alertness and completion of NEWS
• blood glucose
• observing patients for signs of agitation or distress
• wound observations, simple wound dressings
• venepuncture
• removal of peripheral cannula
• urinalysis, removal of catheter
• weight and height
• record patient observations
• other tests if competent.

Qualifications & Training (Band 3)
Essential criteria

Experience

- Experience of working in health or social care (Band 3)
- Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings (Band 3)

- Experience of working in an NHS care role (Band 2)
