Job Summary

An exciting opportunity within the Cancer Data Team has arose. The role significantly involves providing administrative and coordination support to patients, radiology and endoscopy teams, consultants, cancer nurse specialists, and other staff engaged in the cancer care pathway. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient management and tight coordination of the patient pathway, maintaining strong communication among medical staff, general practitioners, patients, their families, the public, and various departments within the Trust.

The post holder will play an important role in assisting with the delivery of high quality, timely and compassionate cancer pathway management for patients in need of diagnostic services, including radiology and endoscopy.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team and be an effective team player in a fast paced environment. As a team player you perform a number of key tasks including monitoring numerous IT platforms, data entry and liaising with other departments ensuring appointments are expedited.

You will be working with a friendly committed team and supported by , the Patient Access Team Leader and a Patient Access Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities for the role is to assist the coordination of the patients on a cancer pathway, ensuring rapid access to radiology and endoscopy diagnostic appointments. This will require building good relationships with clinicians, managers and others within the radiology and endoscopy departments. There will be an element of looking to devise processes to improve the pathway for patients to ensure that safe and effective services are adhered too .

You will need effective knowledge of national target and Trust processes.

You will need to have a keen eye for detail and work and have the ability to work in a fast paced department

Qualifications

Essential

  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) or equivalent experience

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Efficient in the use of Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understanding of person-centred care.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Effective organisation skills.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and non-verbally on a daily basis with people at all levels.
  • Good observation skills.
  • Practical problems solving skills.

Desirable

  • Awareness of Improving Outcomes; A Strategy for Cancer and other national cancer policies
  • Knowledge of relevant cancer treatments, interventions and terminology.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of contact with patients who have cancer.
  • Able to prioritise work and work of others.
  • Able to use own initiative and work without supervision.

Desirable

  • Medical secretarial experience
  • Experience co-ordinating a patient workload.
  • Experience of coaching/teaching patients and carers.
