Health Care Assistant Job overview

 

We have a rare and exciting Health Care Assistant opportunity for a permanent Band 3 Senior Health care assistant role on the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment Unit working between at Royal Sussex County Hospital & Princess Royal Hospital.

We are looking for Health Care Assistant who strives for high standards of patient care to join our friendly and highly professional team at the Sussex Cancer Centre, to carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care in predominantly in the SACT Unit but may be required to work in the Outpatient department and our satellite unit at Princess Royal Hospital

The post requires you have skills in venepuncture, cannulation and good communication.

Health Care Assistant Main Duties

 

To be actively involved in delivering a high standard of individualised holistic patient care to promote and maintain all aspects of his / her physical, social, cultural and psychological wellbeing.

Working under supervision from nursing staff, provide nursing care as part of the multi-disciplinary team to patients attending the unit. Communicating with and referring to other healthcare professionals as necessary.

Person specification

Essential & Desirable

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Communication skills
  • Competent in observation skills
  • Recent experience in a health care setting
  • Ability to support in a health care setting
  • Competent in IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in venepuncture and cannulation
  • Basic Knowledge in Oncology/Haematology
  • Able to use a scalp cooling machine
  • Recognising an unwell patient
