Health Care Assistant Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly organisation as a Health Care Assistant and to support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The Health Care Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Main duties of the job
There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- The health care assistant will Undertake New Patient Health Checks
- The health care assistant will Support the nursing team with health promotion programmes
- The health care assistant will Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- The health care assistant will Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- The health care assistant will Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
- Support the nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- The health care assistant will Act as a chaperone as required
- The health care assistant will When trained, undertake venepuncture
- When trained, administer flu vaccinations
- The health care assistant will When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of a senior team member
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Provide support to colleagues as required
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with current guidance
- The health care assistant will Ensure fridge temperatures are routinely monitored and recorded
- The health care assistant will Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
- The health care assistant will Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Across 2 sites we have 4 salaried GPs and 14 Clinical Practitioners, all of whom are prescribers.
We have a strong nursing team with 5 Practice Nurses and 4 Health Care Assistants.

This helped strengthen our non-clinical team, with our current non-clinical team working effectively providing high quality care and support to all our clinical staff and patients.
