Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team. The Phlebotomist will play a crucial role in our healthcare delivery system by performing venipucture and capillary blood collection procedures, ensuring accurate specimen labelling, and maintaining a safe and hygienic work environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients of all ages, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Verify patient identity and specimen labelling to maintain sample integrity and accuracy.
  • Prepare blood collection equipment, including needles, syringes, and specimen containers, ensuring proper sterilisation and disposal protocols are followed.
  • Adhere to infection control standards and maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Prepare specimens and ensure that they are ready for collection to allow for analysis, thus maintaining proper handling and storage procedures.
  • Record and document collection and procedure information accurately, including patient details and information.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and service delivery.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Phlebotomy or equivalent qualification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations including infection control measures.
  • Excellent venepuncture skills and proficiency in blood collection techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and labelling.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working as a Phlebotomist in a healthcare setting is desirable.
