We are looking for an experienced and motivated Health Care Assistant / Phlebotomist who is trained in General Practice.

The Health Care Assistant will need to be able to work accurately and at pace in a multi-tasking environment, whilst maintaining excellent customer service skills showing empathy to the patients and dealing with all queries in a timely manner. Flexibility is also key within a small team.

We would be happy to consider either full-time or part-time hours. Our working day is 8.00 am – 6.00 pm, so applicants would need to be flexible to able to start and finish at these times, depending on their shifts.

Main duties of the Health Care Assistant

The main duties associated with the role are:

Phlebotomy, ECG’s, NHS Health Checks, Dressings, BP recording, LTC initial reviews.

 

About us

We are a busy City Practice, providing services for 8,000 patients.

Our team includes 3 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 3 Nurses with a variety of skills including Sexual Health and Diabetes Management, and a Phlebotomist. We are also pleased to welcome PCN employed colleagues and are joined each week by a Physiotherapist, a Mental Health Nurse, a Clinical Pharmacist and a Physician’s Associate.

The clinical team is supported by a skilled and well organised administration team.

We use SystmOne for our Clinical system, and also utilise various digital platforms such as Accurx and Footfall to support our processes.

We are a well established training Practice and welcome GP Registrars on six monthly placements.

Job Summary:

The purpose of the role is to:

To assist in patient care and practice related duties working under the direct supervision of the GPs / Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols. The Health Care Assistant will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.

The Health Care Assistant will be required to support the practice team in providing high quality primary care services to the patients registered with the Practice. The Health Care Assistant needs to practice in a safe and confident manner, respecting the principles of health, safety, infection control and security at all times

The Health Care Assistant will be required to attend all appropriate updates and refresher courses within the timeframes specified for the clinical tasks in question. This will take into account any new or amended policies, protocols and procedures relating to any aspect of clinical practice.

Application of basic dressings (under direction of Practice Nurse)

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples as requested by the GPs.

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.

Helping raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.

Maintain accurate records (both computerised and hand- written) at all times

Undertake administrative support as required

Assisting with the collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.

Any ad-hoc task as delegated by the GP Partners, within level of competencies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE standard
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (Maths & English GCSE A to C)
  • NVQ 2 or above in Health Care

Desirable

  • Experience of working in General Practice.
