Healthcare Assistant Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a healthcare assistant to become part of a well-established, fast developing same day emergency care unit. Our Same Day Emergency Care Unit incorporates Medical and Frailty specialities as well as Medical Day Case Unit.

The successful Healthcare Assistant will have excellent communication skills and work well within the team but be able to show initiative and have great time keeping skills.

You will support the nurse with assessing and delivering care to patients across all areas of the unit while you work within your scope of practice.

You will promote patient independence while supporting patients to meet their personal and hygiene needs as well as helping to ensure their dietary needs are met.

You will also assist the ward clerk with admitting and discharging patients. You will play an important role to ensure the unit is kept clean and tidy and assist with stock rotation and re stocking.

While working on the unit you will ensure you work within your scope of practice and take a responsibility to ensure the unit is safe.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • English and Math GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent or high level of literacy and numeracy skills demonstrated within application
  • Competence based level 2 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Care or The Care Certificate issued by an employer
  • Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role

Desirable

  • Moving and Handling
  • Infection Control
  • Customer Care
  • Competent / able to evidence the completion of Health Care Assistant core competencies
  • Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Healthcare Support
