Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide direct personal nursing care, primarily in the patients home and on occasions in other settings such as Community Hospitals, Residential and Nursing homes and Eden Valley Hospice.

 

The post holder will provide practical nursing care, emotional, social and psychological support to individuals with palliative care needs, their families and carers. This role involves regular and extended involvement with the stress of caring for dying patients and their families.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Person Specification

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of palliative care issues
  • An understanding of multi-disciplinary working and working with other organisations e.g. District Nurse Teams.
  • Enhanced communication skills to work with patients, families and health/social care professionals.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, often in isolation and demonstrate effective coping mechanisms.
  • Quality focused with an innovative approach to solving complex problems.
  • Diplomacy
  • Sensitive to the needs of those affected by life-limiting illness.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts patterns over a 24 hour period 7 days a week.
  • Ability to respond to changing work shifts.
  • Must be able to travel autonomously across the geographical area covered by the service.

Desirable

  • IT Skills-knowledge of patient information systems e.g. EMIS

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent Health & Social Care
  • Care Certificate (or willingness to work towards)
