Health Care Assistant Job summary

Experience working as a health care assistant in general practice would be a distinct advantage. However, we would be willing to provide training to applicants who have already obtained or are in the process of obtaining qualifications and professional competencies required for the role. The successful health care assistant should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and computer skills along with the ability to multi-task and to work both independently and within a team

 

Health Care Assistant Main duties

As part of your duties you will offer a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including phlebotomy, ECGs, 24 hour BP monitors, Dressings, injections, Diabetic Health Checks, NHS health checks & assisting with minor surgery

An opportunity has arisen due to retirement for the role of a Health Care Assistant at Sandgate Road Surgery, Folkestone. Located inWest Folkestone just a short walk from the Folkestone Leas the practice providesprimary care services to approximately 13,000 patients.

 

Job description

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Matron the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

 

New patient health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Blood pressure

24 hour blood pressure monitoring

Diabetic Annual Review (HCA)

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

 

Preparing and maintaining Infection Control Audits

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE or Equivalent In English and Maths

Desirable

  • Care Certificate and KaSPaC or NVQ equivalent

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience in directly providing healthcare to patients
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and professional development
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Proven track record of working as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience working as a HCA in general practice
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Experience of administering vaccinations
  • Knowledge of wound dressing
