The successful healthcare assistant will work within the Clinical Decisions Unit (Surgical Same day Emergency Care). The unit runs a 7 day service 0730-2000, including weekends and all bank holidays. The unit assesses General Surgical emergency patients as well as those of the Surgical Specialties, such as Breast and ENT. The Clinical Decisions Unit is an emergency Triage area for those requiring treatment but not always hospital admission.
The candidate will assist the Nursing and Medical team to ensure safe and effective patient care and work within the set protocols of SDEC.
The Clinical Decisions Unit is a small team of approximately 14 staff members and we all have a very good sense of teamwork and togetherness. The staff all have a variety of experience and will always be willing to offer support and assistance where needed.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our service development. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality care without direct supervision working with all members of the multidisciplinary team. They will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties and responsibilities as indicated within the Person Specification and a Competency Framework governing aspects of care appropriate at Band 3.
Experience in General Surgery is essential, for this role.
You will be able to work effectively within a team environment; good communication skills must be evident.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients’ homes.
