Scholarship Benefits

The merit scholarship provides the following benefits:

  • Monthly Stipend: The scholarship offers up to €930 per month.
  • Funding Duration: Scholarships are awarded for two semesters, covering a total of 12 months. Recipients are allowed to reapply, with the maximum funding duration being two years.

The scholarship alleviates financial stress, allowing recipients to concentrate on their academic and extracurricular pursuits without distraction.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Enrollment: Applicants must have been enrolled at Universität Hamburg for at least two semesters and be actively pursuing a degree (Master’s students and doctoral researchers can apply after one completed semester).
  2. Citizenship: Applicants must not hold German citizenship.
  3. Funding Eligibility: International students who are eligible for federal student loans under the German Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) are not eligible for this scholarship.

Application Process

Applying for the merit scholarship at Universität Hamburg involves several steps, and it’s important to prepare ahead of time to ensure a complete and successful application:

  1. Application Portal: Access the application form. Applicants must complete registration and provide the necessary documents via the online portal.
  2. Required Documents: CV, Letter of motivation, proof of social and/or intercultural activities (if applicable), and Academic achievements:
    • For Bachelor’s students: Submit a STiNE printout of the “Leistungskonto” or a current transcript of records.
    • For Master’s students and doctoral researchers: Submit your most recent degree certificate with grades (in English or German).
    • Two evaluations from full-time teaching staff with doctorates at Universität Hamburg, using the official evaluation template.
  3. Document Verification:
    • Non-EU Citizens: Must present their residence permit.
    • EU Citizens: Must present their identity card and registration certificate of residence (“Meldebescheinigung”).
    • Schedule an appointment with the program coordinator before the application deadline.

Application Deadline: 15 October, 2024.

For the upcoming application round, the 15 October 2024 deadline requires that applicants request an appointment to present their residence permit or identity card by Friday, 11 October 2024, at 11 a.m. Requests made after this time will not be considered, leading to an incomplete application.
