University of Sydney $140,000 Scholarship 2025 for Engineering Students

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney is offering a postgraduate research scholarship 2025 designed to support a PhD student focusing on the development of embrittlement-tolerant alloys for safe hydrogen transmission and storage. This prestigious scholarship is backed by the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) as part of a highly regarded Australian Research Council Linkage Project.

Key Highlights

  • Scholarship Value: Up to $40,109 per annum (indexed annually), offered for up to 3.5 years.
  • Eligibility: Open to both domestic and international students.
  • PhD Focus: Engineering research in embrittlement-tolerant alloys.

Eligibility Criteria

The University of Sydney’s Faculty of Engineering is offering a PhD scholarship worth $40,109 per year for up to 3.5 years to support research into embrittlement-tolerant alloys for safe hydrogen transmission and storage under Dr. Yi Sheng (Eason) Chen.

Open to domestic and international students, applicants must hold an unconditional offer for a full-time PhD, with a first-class honours or a master’s degree in materials or mechanical engineering, or physics. Applications are accepted even without an unconditional offer, but no scholarship will be awarded until admission is confirmed.

Research Background

Australia’s commitment to a carbon-free economy by 2050 places clean hydrogen fuel as a central component of the nation’s energy transition strategy. However, conventional steels present a critical challenge as they are prone to fracturing upon exposure to hydrogen.

This research project aims to develop innovative steels capable of safely transporting hydrogen at high pressures. By exploring the microstructural interactions between steel and hydrogen, this project will contribute to the creation of a robust and safe hydrogen infrastructure essential for a sustainable hydrogen economy.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to be part of a global network of experts and industries, pushing the boundaries of engineering solutions for a greener future.

How to Apply?

Applications open on November 1, 2024, and close on November 29, 2024 and you can submit application here https://www.sydney.edu.au/scholarships/b/embrittlement-tolerant-alloys.html.
