The Health Care Assistant will Assist the Registered Nurse in the, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.

- At the direction of the Registered Nurse participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care.
- Successfully completed the HCA Emergency Department competency workbook and show ability to teach others.
- Support the registered nurse to provide family centred care to children attending the emergency department.
- To maintain high standards of care and promote an environment suitable for the care of children, ensuring that all patients’ needs are met.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Communication
- Report any concern regarding patient care
- Participate in any patient and public involvement activities
- Provide reassurance support to patients and carers/family
- Provide Health Promotion Advice to patients and families as appropriate.
- Participate in relevant departmental meetings and represent the department at Trust wide meetings when appropriate, disseminating information as appropriate.Responsibility for patient/client care
- Assist the Registered Nurse in the evaluation of care and completion of patient documentation.
- Involve patients and carers/relatives in the delivery of care.
- Work collaboratively with others in the department to ensure that patients needs are met.

- Undertake escort of patients as directed by a registered nurse.
- Undertake extended skills/roles as designated by Emergency Department Manager Nurse/Practice Educator nurse.
- Assist the Registered Nurse and medical team in the management of major trauma and the care seriously ill child, including cardiac arrest situations

- oNVQ 2/3 in healthcare related study or evidence of equivalent knowledge and skills
- oEmergency department HCA competency handbook complete (or relevant evidence and experience of already working at band 3 in a paediatric HCA role.)
